10 Easy Tips to Nail Your On-Camera Performance.

Before filming, try a quick reset — tense your whole body for a few seconds, then release. Deep breaths work wonders too. You’ve got this.

10 Easy Tips to Nail Your On-Camera Performance

Being in front of the camera can feel a bit daunting, but with a little prep (and the right team behind you ????), you’ll absolutely smash it. At Purple Door, we’ve helped loads of people feel confident on camera – from complete beginners to seasoned pros.

Here are 10 simple tips to help you shine:

1. Send Over Bullet Points Beforehand

Honestly, this is a game-changer. Knowing what you want to say ahead of time helps you feel more in control and helps us guide you through filming. Rambling = awkward. Bullet points = brilliant.

2. Get to the Point

Keep it snappy. Most videos are short – think 2-3 minutes max. Focus on your key messages and say them clearly. If it takes 10 seconds to say something, don’t drag it out to 40.

3. We’re on Your Side

The crew is here to help you look and sound your best. Want to retake something? No problem. Feeling a bit wobbly? Tell us – we’ve got your back.

4. Dress Smart (But Not Distracting)

Go for solid, bold colours – they pop on camera. Avoid busy patterns, spots, stripes, checks, all white, or all black. Keep jewellery simple. And if you’ve got long hair, make sure it’s not hiding your face. Your eyes do a lot of the talking.

5. Own Your Body Language

Look at the camera (or your interviewer), stand tall, and try not to fidget. Gesturing naturally is fine — just don’t bounce around like you’re at a gig.

6. Slow It Down

It’s super common to speed up when you’re nervous or excited. Try to pause, breathe, and speak at a chill, steady pace.

7. Practice Makes (Almost) Perfect

Run through your key points in the mirror or with a mate — it helps! Don’t memorise a script though. You’ll sound way more natural if you’re just talking from bullet points.

8. Just Be You

No need to go full newsreader mode. If you’re warm, cheeky, or funny – lean into it! Be yourself… but maybe just the slightly louder, more energised version.

9. Forget the Audience

If thinking about people watching you later makes you panic, don’t. Pretend you’re chatting to your best mate on the sofa. No one’s judging – they actually want to hear what you have to say.

10. Shake Off the Nerves

Before filming, try a quick reset — tense your whole body for a few seconds, then release. Deep breaths work wonders too. You’ve got this.

At Purple Door, we also run relaxed, hands-on media training sessions — tailored to you or your team. Whether it’s your first time in front of a camera or you’ve got a big interview coming up, we’ll help you get your message across clearly, confidently, and without the stress.
